allocation of working memory resource

Rarely in the real world are all items equally behaviorally relevant, which raises an interesting question. How do people allocate their limited working memory resource across items with different behavioral relevance? In this study, we found that participants remember more important items better. Interestingly, behavior was well described by a computational model that assumes the participant allocates resource to minimize loss (defined as error to some exponent), suggesting people are allocating resource to maximize accuracy.
